‘Anneleen is very knowledgeable and her workshops are very relaxed and friendly. She makes learning fun, leaving you with the motivation and confidence to go out there and photograph with renewed enthusiasm.’
I run photography and creativity workshops and residential retreats, with a range of different subject focuses. I am passionate about helping others to grow in creative confidence, through developing their photographic abilities and personal style. I also offer one-to-one mentoring sessions, either in person or online, tailored to the individual’s needs.
Photography is a multi-faceted method of documentation, but is also a tool for self-expression and the communication of ideas. There are many different approaches and reasons for picking up your camera. Each individual’s way of looking at the world is unique and I aim to help you feel confident about translating your personal vision into your images.
‘You’ve given me new ideas, motivation and excitement at the chance to create and push myself.’
My own photography is greatly inspired and influenced by the locations and environments in which I shoot and in my teaching I share tips and suggestions regarding how to use light and locations to their best advantage. On residentials and on styled shoot experience days, I will introduce you to some special places which will create epic backdrops for your photographs and help you to see how to make the most of the locations that are available to you.
‘Vision is the art of seeing what is invisible to others.’
Jonathan Swift
I keep numbers on my workshops small and limited, in order to get to know you and help you to uncover your own creative voice. Helping you to grow in understanding of how to read photographs and communicate using photography, I want you to come away inspired and filled with confidence in your own creativity.
- Considering the technical foundations of photography; how your use of light, camera settings, composition, angle of view can affect the look of your images.
- Exploring photography as a channel for tapping into your creativity, thinking about what inspires you and what is important to you.
- Looking at, learning from and finding inspiration in the work of other photographers.
- Workshops and one-to-one coaching with small businesses and artists who want to learn how to produce content and product images for their social media.
- Learning about shooting fashion and portraits on location. Opportunities to work with professional designers, stylists, makeup artists and experienced models on styled shoots and come away with your own unique images.
- Thinking about how colour, texture and use of props can help to create a mood and tell a story.
- There will also be opportunities for group discussion and a one-to-one portfolio review or chat with me about a project you have in progress or would like help with planning.
Unfortunately due to Coronavirus I have had to postpone previously planned dates for photography workshops and residentials, but I have some exciting partnerships, styled shoot plans and special places I’m longing to share with attendees when I’m able to make solid plans for new dates! I’ll be running location-based workshops and retreats in photography and creativity, initially in Edinburgh and the Lothians, then in the future also in the Scottish Highlands, Islands, Yorkshire and the Peak District.
In the meantime, I’m still offering mentoring sessions for individuals who are looking to develop their creative approach to photography, review their portfolios and archives and pull together themes in their work. I run these mentoring sessions both online and in person. Please get in touch if you’d like to find out more about this.
